Depends on how thick you want the gesso and what medium you have used. I reckon you can gesso over acrylic as many times as you want, until it just gets too thick. Oil paints take forever to dry so people more commonly remove the paint than gesso over it. I am not even sure you can successfully gesso over oils.31 Mar 2010
